Testing Feedback Needed: Android 4.0.4

This is NOT A RELEASE!  This is our first working build of 4.0.4 and with very little testing so it may have hidden breakage.  Please test only if you plan on providing feedback to help us improve before CM9 beta2.  CWM backup is highly recommended!

Help Needed - Advanced Users Only
CM9 beta1-test-4.0.4 is CM9 beta1 with Android 4.0.4 built on March 30th, 2012.  The audio fix is not ready so it is not included in this build, although mdnie is enabled.  Please help by testing this ROM and reporting any of the following.
  • See anything different from CM9 beta1?  These are not bugs but just changes in behavior.
  • Any regressions since CM9 beta1?  These are ONLY new bugs.  If something worked in CM9 beta1 but no longer in this build, we need to know about it.  Important: Please post your feedback even if it is the same bug as someone else's report.  We need multiple reports to better confirm new bugs!
Warning!  3rd party themes are known to break this ROM.  Do NOT use 3rd party kernels with this ROM or your test feedback may confuse the developers.

  1. Booted up great.
    Seems overall smoother.
    Scrolling is perfect.
    Seems super smooth.

  2. Works great except that bluetooth to my car doesn't work anymore. It connects but no audio is played back. If I disconnect or turn bluetooth off then back on, I can not connect again unless I power cycle the phone. Also, the current V6 Supercharger script (without the modified framework) makes the phone hang on boot.

    1. I believe you are mistaken somehow? You may want to try a clean wipe, and make sure you are using the correct gapps. Nobody else is having this issue as you describe.

    2. What is the correct gapps version? Still gapps version 20120317?

    3. That's the right gapps,
make sure you're on a compatible version of CWM

      wipe everything, reflash, flash gapps

don't restore a backup just reboot, go through the sign in process and get yourself sync'd

assuming the play store works fine at this point you can re-install all your apps little by little and see what ends up breaking it

  4. I tested everything I have on my Epic and have no problems. I don't like having a wireless connection strapped to my head so I'll leave bluetooth testing to others :-) good job ya'll!!

    1. This is a new version of android, therefore, framework has most likely changed somewhat if not a great deal. If you are using themes created for beta 1 using android 4.0.3 they WILL NOT work with this version which is using android 4.0.4. This is most likely the same case with the v6 supercharger service.jar crack. You might be able to try the v6 script .jar that was created for AOKP build 29 (available on it's respective thread on XDA) as it was created for android version 4.0.4. There's no guarantee this will work, as it is meant for AOKP, which has some differences from CM9, even though it is based on it, but at least it is the same version of android.

  6. Everything works great except receiving calls while listening to music. After answering the call, headphones still on, I am talking on speakerphone but it sound like I am randomly hitting keys on dial pad.

  10. Boots up great, Runs great I just noticed one thing but it could be just me. The color seems a lot better mdnie disabled for instince the background of the settings seems a lot smoother on the original beta 1 rather than the test version.

Overall it is still a wonderful ROM and I have been running it sence beta 0.

Anyways... wonderful work by the cyanogen team and I can't wait for a beta 2 release

  11. Not seeing any bugs so far...

Only problem is that I don't like mdnie being enabled.

  12. There is still an issue at least with mine where when put on vibrate it wont vibrate when a text comes in been running since alpha 4 and still hoping you are able to fix where the screen will rotate back after closing the keyboard other than that phone seems to run about the same to me no real difference that i have seen

  13. Booted up, did a wipe of cache and dalvik for just giggles, also booted it up with Nova Launcher. Everything is, at least to me, a LOT snappier than beta 1. Had the v6 script running on beta 1 and not having it here and I actually notice my phone running better without than with.
No BT connections to test, sorry :(
Wifi, 3g, phone service all tested for multiple hours without a glitch.
Wifi connection seems stronger and snappier to connect, 3g standard for my area (and without the 3g opt script that's actually a big plus) and TWS is less than 2%.

No force closures or weird lag/hangs. Overall, LOVING IT :)

  14. what is mdnie and should i check mine to see if it is enabled?

    1. It is a piece of the system that affects color quality put in by samsung that is suppose to make text look sharper but Ipersonaly think text looks better withthout it. It comes disabled in beta1 by default and comes enabled by default in beta0 and older versions of CM9 for the epic.

  15. Straight 'stock' flash of the test build. The kernel and os are behaving better than ever before. Great sleep behavior, no questionable kernel wake locks, very smooth fast and responsive. Me likes.

  16. Issues noticed by me have been while taking a picture if you view the picture afterwards while trying to return to the camera the phone will hang and go black, having to hit the home key to exit. or on more then one instance, a lot of lag while doing the same.

  17. Strange behavior with the data arrows on wimax connection, earlier the up/down arrows were always on, now with new connection after airplane mode for a while up/down arrows always off. Doesn't show true status of data flow. 4g and hotspot working fine.

  18. After more use, noticed apps tend to "hang" more.

  19. Full day of testing and still no major problems!

I noticed a minor thing that when you plug the phone into a computer and turn on mass storage you never see the "USB connected" message in the status bar, then when you disconnect the phone instead of saying "USB Disconnected" it then tells me "USB Connected" :-)
    functionality is fine.
    I have USB debugging unchecked
noticed this plugging the phone into two different computers both running win7 64bit

  20. Used to be able to turn on & off 4G and 3G "Mobile Data" separately. Now it acts like 4G requires 3G to be on first.

  21. I've been testing it for a day and a half, no major bugs found, my phone works smoother and faster. nevertheless, there're a few things that annoy me:

1: phone doesn't vibrate and the LED light don't turn on when receiving a text message.
2: the LED doesn't turn on when I have a miss call
3: the Fn and Shift botton need to be pressed so they'd work.

  22. Two full days at work, and this test rom is awesome. I have run pretty much every app on my phone with no new issues as compared to Beta 1. I'm working hard on finding new problems to no avail.

I hope that Beta 2 will be based on this. If not, I'm keeping this as my daily driver.

  23. I have just noticed that after installing this when in try to reboot into recovery mode with using the quick pick under restart it just restarts the phone and not to recovery mode not a huge issue bc i can still go into recovery mode with hard buttons but still just thought i would mention it

  24. phone seems to lock up into a black screen with the bottom buttons lit up requiring me to remove the battery to reset after receiving a phone call while phone is on the charger. Only happens when I leave it plugged in the whole time (Not disconnecting the charger while talking)this has happened three times on me now. can anyone else check to see if they caan duplicate this issue.

  25. Been running for 2 days. No issues to report. Seems solid.

  26. Having a problem with Google sign in. Every time the phone reboots it requires me to log into my account again. Sometimes it gives me a login error when the phone is idle.

  27. Backed up Beta1, flashed this over it, cleared cache and Dalvic, booted and crashed Apex Launcher. Offered to let me use Apex Launcher as default and good to go. No problems, no issues, and yes - 4.0.4 does seem faster response and slightly better battery life. Deep sleep at 71% for over 24 hours now. Great job!!!!

  28. Well everything seems to work, occasionally when turning off 3G data the radios get stuck on off. And also when it comes to picture mail it's a little glitchy the image will pop up for a second and go away. Still having the issue of adding Facebook to accounts and sync. Other than that I have no issues

  29. I got to say thanks for making this test rom so solid I have had very few issues.
Update on using the music player as I do a lot I've only had one call not ring through in the course of the past 5 days so I'm not sure to say if that's a bug or not, could have been the network not like I've never had a call not ring through before :-)

The music player ends up force closing sometimes, more than I have ever had it happen before but I can't duplicate the issue it just happens sometimes, it does remember what song it was playing and where it was at in the song when you launch it again though.

    Thanks

  31. Installed nicely and boots fast after initial install! GJ
One thing that would be nice if possible is to make the apps list in the drawer to be able to scroll down as opposed to side to side; and then make the same for the widgets using the side to side action to go from apps to widgets. I would think that the overall smoothness of it would be better. It would also be nice to have the LED on the Epic 4G work correctly, currently using Light Flow lite, but not all that great.
-Bluetooth, not really an issue but it seems to take a while to connect to the devices that it is paired with even having been on for 5-10 mins unless i go in and turn off/turn on blue tooth then it connects right away. Or if it does connect it connects (not sending any data, so device doesn't know that it is connected) so the discon/conn works then.
-Bookmarks: nice to see that option for the widgets again. But there don't need to be any preset ones besides maybe Google and Facebook, as they are probably the most used by most of the users.
-Calculator: I prefer the stock one as you can see the history of past transactions. The current one is a 1 line is kinda a pain, but a 3rd party works as well.
-Haptic Feedback vibrate seems to be a bit strong by default, not sure if it is able to be changed but def seems a lot more then CM7
